Kelton's Stories - A Blog

Well Kelton wrapped up his first year of pre-school. He had to make up days due to snow days during the first part of the year. Jamie was telling him about the make-up days, and Kelton promptly said, "I’m not doing any make-up ...I’m not a girl!"

But despite Kelton still not wanting to talk to his teachers directly (he was known to have asked other kids to ask the teacher if he could go to the restroom), they still promoted him on to pre-Kindergarten next year. :)

We just got back from a vacation to the Northwest. We went with Grandma and Grandpa Luhring. Flew into Seattle, drove down the Oregon coast, saw the redwoods in Northern California, headed back up the Oregon Rockies and ended up back in Seattle.

Kelton was awesome the whole trip! He did great in the long airplane and van rides. He entertained himself talking to everyone, giggling at Isla who sat next to him, and he LOVED all the sight-seeing pull-off areas where he could get out and climb on rocks, see mountains (volcanoes), and the rapids of the rivers coming down.

We had packed up a couple of monitors with a DVD player for the kids to watch in the van while we drive... They must have been damaged in the air travel because they didn’t work! But the pleasant thing is, the kids didn’t even need them! With all the hours on the road, the DVD player wasn’t even missed.

On the airplane back home, the airline was playing the movie "How to Train Your Dragon", which Kelton has been wanting to watch. How great, right? Well, we put the headphones on Kelton and about five minutes later he pulled them off and said he didn’t care to watch it. Jamie ended up putting the headphones on, and it was playing Spanish music instead of the audio for the movie! Poor Kelton! No wonder he didn’t care to watch it!

So we’re back home, and glad to be back to normal! The newest hot item out is the Apple iPad. Kelton, of course, has seen the commercials and desperately wants one! He pronounces it a little off, "I want an iPyad," is what he says. I say, "no way, it’s too expensive." As soon as the commercial comes on I immediately say, "NO!" and he grins real big and says, "I want an iPyad!"

Just last week Apple announced their next generation iPhone. Jamie and I were watching the product video on the laptop and Kelton happened to see it... "What’s that?" he asked. "The new iPhone," we said. "I want an iPhone." Ha! We explain to him that he’s way too young for one and they’re too expensive... "Plus, didn’t you want an iPad?" He replies with, "Well...I want an iPhone AND an iPyad."

Kelton is excited that spring is here! He’s been really enjoying walks around the block -- or should I say running around the block! He likes to run soooo fast now! His favorite game around the block is for him to pretend he is Spiderman and daddy is the "sandman guy" and we chase each other. Sometimes Kelton will pretend that he’s the Green Goblin though.

We bought a new battery pack for his kids Jeep and he’s driving it like a pro again! He loves that thing.

He’s been having fun on his playset in the backyard too.

His school is going very well. They’ve started to send homework with him, and he really enjoys doing it -- writing his letters and his name. He’s also doing mazes, and is really good at them.

I just asked him what else he does at school, and he said, "Well, I play with kids. And the bad kid keeps knocking down my towers. That’s not nice is it? Someday he needs to stop."

Kelton is watching me as I type this, and he knows what I’m doing. So now he wants me to write this: "I love Daddy, and Mommy, and everybody in the whole big city." :)

Ha ha ha! He just pointed at the screen where I typed the smiley face above and said, "Hey! Who drawed that!" I asked what it was (since it is sideways), and he grinned and said "a smiley face!"

I’ve been working quite a few hours lately at work, and Kelton has started to really notice. Jamie says he gets really sad at night asking why I can’t read him a goodnight story.

So the last couple days I’ve eaten lunch with them and tried to get home a bit earlier so I can see him before he goes to bed.

Tonight I met them after work for dinner, then he and I headed home while Isla, Mommy and "Aunt Donna" shopped at the mall. On the way home we listend to a little Ray Charles in the car. When we got home Kelton was still singing and this is what he sang:

"Hit the road, Jack, and daddy stay home all day all day all day all day..."

Ha! How funny is that! I love that boy.

Kelton has become a video game fiend... He wants to do little more than play Lego Batman on his DSi, or Wii Sports Resport, or Spiderman on the PS2... He’s getting quite good at all of them.

Fortunately, he hasn’t gone 100% digital... He still likes to play pirate ships and fight pillows. Actually, he’s started to fight pillows with Isla -- my first reaction was to stop them..."Kelton! Isla’s too little for that." But, if you could have heard her giggling about being knocked down, you would have let them go for a while too!

Kelton just finished a 3-day Christmas extraveganza! And we’re all worn out! Among his favorite toys were pirate ships (one large wood, one plastic that can be taken in the car or tub), a toy rescue helicopter, a remote control truck, and a Nintendo DSi with five games.

Now we just have to figure out were to put all the new toys! Yikes.

Here’s a funny story from a couple weeks ago when Kelton and Mommy were out at Target. They saw Kelton’s best friend from pre-school, Carter, down the aisle. Jamie asked if Kelton wanted to go say hi, and with an excited look on his face he nodded yes. When they got close and said hi, Carter immediately hid behind his mom’s leg and Kelton hid behind Jamie. Neither one would talk!
